FLEET MANAGERS SEEK URGENT MEETING WITH PM
‘Government doesn’t understand the impact on business’ – Fleet managers
25 July 2013
The Managing Directors of three fleet leasing companies are seeking an urgent meeting with the Prime Minister when he visits Perth tomorrow. Nigel Malcolm of Fleetcare, Eric Cain of Fleet Network and Mark Iriks of easifleet have contacted the Prime Minister’s office requesting a meeting tomorrow to discuss the impact of the FBT changes announced by the Government last week.
Nigel Malcolm says: ‘The Government did not consult the industry before making the announcement and from all that they’ve said since the announcement it seems to those of us in the industry that they don’t understand the devastating impact the changes will have on businesses. This is not just about drivers of salary-packaged cars having to pay an average extra $1,400 a year. The cost to businesses who provide their staff with a car, as part of their package, will be $4,000 a year per vehicle. Quite apart from the impact on the whole car industry, that will make a huge impact on business profitability, confidence, and the economy.’
Fleet Network and Fleetcare have already announced major redundancies at their companies. They are awaiting a reply from the Prime Minister’s office.
