What is the Toyota DPF class action?
On May 16th 2022, the court delivered a judgement in favour of any persons that acquired a Toyota Hilux, Fortuner and Prado vehicles with a 1GD-FTV or 2GD-FTV diesel engine between 1st October 2015 and 23rd April 2020 in Australia.
The court found that the vehicles in this category had a defective diesel particulate filter (DPF) system. There is an estimated number of 260,000 vehicles affected.

Why is a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) important?
The DPF is a device designed to remove diesel particulate matter or soot from exhaust gas of a diesel engine and intends to reduce the output of pollutants into the atmosphere to allow diesel manufacturers to maintain emission standards.
Who is eligible?
Any person(s) who;
- acquired by way of purchase, exchange or taking on a lease or hire purchase of one or more models of Toyota that fit into the defective category during the time frame of 1st October 2015 and 23rd April 2020
- did not acquire the vehicle at auction
- did not acquire the vehicles for purpose of re-supply
- acquired the vehicle from a Toyota dealership or other retailer, including second hand through used car dealers, or from any person who directly acquired the vehicle from a Toyota dealership or retailer.
