Holden Closure: What does it mean for Holden owners?

On Monday 12th February 2020, General Motors announced the retirement of the Holden brand in Australia and New Zealand. The closure heralds the end of 160 years of history for the brand in Australia, which culminated in one of our great cultural rivalries of “Ford vs Holden”.

But what does this mean for you?

New car sales

If you still want to buy a new Holden, the clock is ticking. There are a number of new vehicles still rolling through the production lines that will end up in Australian dealerships for sale this year. Dealerships will continue to sell these vehicles ‘while stocks last’ and it is expected that all vehicles will be sold by the end of the year.

Servicing, parts supply and maintenance

GM says that it will continue to support its cars with "spare parts, servicing and recalls for at least the next 10 years". Holden has also advised that it will establish a national aftersales network to support existing customers during this time.

Warranties

General Motors have stated that “Holden will honour all existing warranties and guarantees, as well as all free scheduled servicing offers”. Customers will not have to service their Holdens at a Holden dealership to guarantee warranty coverage.

Recalls

Holden and its aftersales network will continue to handle any recalls or safety-related issues if they arise, working with the appropriate governmental agencies,” says the company.
