5 top tips to make your next road trip a success

27/08/2020 by Lania Mason in Lifestyle

Australia offers some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world. From bustling cities, whimsical townships and pristine beaches, to rolling mountains and the seemingly endless red centre. Whatever your definition of beauty, Australia offers it all.

The idea of hitting the open road and exploring our own backyard has many of us planning and prepping to get out and about with nature. A successful road trip will stay with you for life, which is why we have compiled our five top tips to ensure your next trip is safe, manageable, and most of all – memorable!

1. Safety first

Not all of us have roadside assistance, and for those that do, you could be hours away from help. A vehicle jack, jumper cables, and flashlight take up no room at all in the boot of your car and could be a lifesaver should you breakdown. And don’t forget the first aid kit!

2. Vehicle checks

Before you hit the road, you need to ensure your car is in great shape, especially if you expect to be driving for hundreds of kilometers. Fleetcare can put you in touch with your closest or preferred supplier who can service your car ensuring that tyres (including the spare), brakes, oil and water levels are all ready for you to start exploring.

3. The paperwork

Is your drivers licence, vehicle registration and insurance policy details valid? If not, sort them out before you get behind the wheel. With an increase of traffic police on our roads especially during peak seasons like school holidays, its best to have all of this sorted so you don’t have any unnecessary delays getting to your favourite spot.

4. Snacks and drinks

Roadhouses and servos maybe limited on your travels, so make sure to pack plenty of snacks to nibble on and drinks to keep you hydrated. These can help keep children occupied too. The more distracted they are, the less likely they will ask, “are we there yet?”. Top Tip – Don’t have a huge meal before heading off as this can make you drowsy behind the wheel.

5. Music

Every road trip needs a playlist. Spend some time and put together some tunes that will keep you and your passengers moving and grooving. Whatever your preference, make sure your music player is fully charged, your DJ is prepped and pack the car-charger.

All packed and ready to go? Not quite yet! Many of us are so eager to start the journey that we forget to fill up! Surprised? Don’t be. Roadside assistance teams service thousands of Australian drivers simply because they have run out of fuel.

Now that you have the basics covered, you might want to consider upgrading your vehicle to match the terrain you could encounter. From family-friendly SUV’s, to rugged and ready four-wheel drives, we can source your dream car and save you thousands with a Fleetcare Novated Lease.
