Surviving winter

With the arrival of the rain and the cold, it’s easy to lose motivation to exercise, eat well and stay healthy. That glass of red wine or block of chocolate can sometimes be too hard to resist when you’re rugged up on the couch. Don’t worry, you’re certainly not alone! We’ve put together some tips to keep you fit and healthy through out the rainy season.

 

Exercise

Getting active boosts your energy levels and releases feel good hormones (that great feeling you have after a run or workout) however it can be difficult to find the motivation to actually get out there and do it.

The hardest part is getting to the gym or outside for a run. To motivate yourself to go before work, think of the lovely relaxing evening you'll have because you've already done your daily exercise! If you're heading to the gym after work, go straight there. It's easy to stay at home if you stop in on your way. Once you’re at the gym or started your run, it just gets easier.

Motivate yourself with a reward for sticking to your exercise schedule, or make a bet with a friend that you can stick to your intentions. This will give you even more reason to keep active this winter.

Healthy eating

As the saying goes, you are what you eat. Make sure you’re putting good things into your body this month and try and avoid eating too many processed foods. Don’t forget to keep drinking water! Even though it’s cold, you still need 8 glasses a day. Try drinking green tea if you don’t fancy a glass of ice cold water. Dry July is another way to motivate yourself stay healthy this month and it also raises money for a good cause. Why not get together with some friends and join in?

Socialise

Use the time indoors to catch up with friends and family. Organise dinner parties, board game nights or even just a catch up over a cup of coffee. This way, you get to spend time with loved ones and you can stay warm! Its important for our mental health to maintain relationships, friendships and interact with others

Relax

When many people think of winter, they imagine cups of hot chocolate with marshmallows, warm fires, and sitting rugged up on the couch watching DVDs. But how many of us actually do this? Take some time out to relax this winter and embrace the cooler weather. Catch up on that TV series you’ve been meaning to watch, or go to bed a bit earlier. Wind down and enjoy some quite time.
