Keep Fit at Work


13 October is National Ride to Work Day, so why not dust off the bike and forget about the parking hassles whilst doing your bit for the environment. But there are also many other ways to keep your body moving during the day at the office.


FitnessIs it possible to keep fit at work? As many of us spend a large proportion of our lives in the workplace the good news is yes! If you work in an office it can be tricky but there are things you can do to keep yourself moving during the day and up your fitness levels.

First of all, make sure you get out of your chair and do something physical during the daytime. Sitting or standing all day is hard on your body, so take every opportunity you can to move around throughout the working day.

Start by parking your car a little further from the office door than usual. Even a small distance soon adds up day-to-day and means you’re taking more steps over the course of a week. Talking of steps, take the stairs! Never take the lift – instead make use of the staircase to tone your legs and increase your stamina.

Make sure your leave your desk at lunchtime and go out for a walk or even to the shops. Just moving around in the middle of the day is good for your body and mind. 

Ensure that you are drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Dehydration leads to feelings of tiredness and weakness. Another advantage is that drinking more water leads to more bathroom breaks and more chances to leave your desk and walk. Another way to keep fit at work.
