Spring festivalsThe festival season kicks off on Sunday 2 August with the Ambiwerra Festival, an atmospheric outdoor event with great live music, and food by top local chefs.

Those with an interest in design won’t want to miss Sydney Design 09, which takes place at the Powerhouse Museum 1-16 August and celebrates local and international design with a diverse program of events, exhibitions, speakers, tours, markets and workshops designed to engage and inspire.

Readers and writers will be flocking to the Byron Bay Writers’ Festival, which this year takes place 7-9 August, to hear celebrated authors and poets discuss their work.

The Fireside Festival is held across Canberra and Capital Region all through August and is a chance to indulge in exquisite cool climate wines and local delicacies, while meeting local artists, listening to music and relaxing by open fires.

The iconic Muster, held this year 25-30 August among the towering gums of Amamoor Creek State Forest Park, celebrates the true spirit of country Australia. This laid-back event has music ranging from folk, bluegrass, balladeers and gospel, to blues, bush poetry, clogging, line-dancing, salsa and rock’n’roll, as well as a theatre production, celebrity guest debate and a talent search.
