Holidays are something we all love, whether it’s a long weekend or a few weeks off over Christmas. Some time away can lower your blood pressure, boost your immune system and improve your memory.

Physical benefits

Think of the last holiday you took. Did you sit for 8 hours a day? Unlikely. Holidays are a great way to get up and move around and can do wonders for your body.

If you’re heading to the sunshine, then take the chance to swim, snorkel, surf or take a relaxing walk. If the snow if more your scene, it’s likely you’ll be skiing or snowboarding, allowing your body to move around and get the blood pumping.

Use your holiday to try some activities you’ve never done before. Not only will you enjoy trying something new, but it’s likely you’ll have some great memories to look back on once you’re sitting at your desk again.

Mental benefits

A holiday gives you the opportunity to recharge your batteries and let your mind wander. In order to get the most out of your break, you need to know how to switch off, so try not to check your emails or take any work related phones calls during this time.

Spending quality time with your family and friends will allow you to build stronger relationships and catch up on any lost time. Holidays are also a great time to meet new people and make new friends!

Lastly, no disruptions on your holiday means you can catch up on your sleep and enjoy a really good night’s rest.  A long weekend can help you catch up on a third of a lost night’s sleep, so take advantage of it! Holidays also mean you can sneak in a little afternoon nap, which can be good for recharging the brain. Just make sure it’s no longer then 15-20mins otherwise you’ll hit a deep sleep and won’t wake up as fresh as expected.
