Whether you’re a big motorsport fan, or know nothing at all, here are some facts to get you ready for the Bathurst 1000.

 
Bathurst 1000• Traditionally the race was held on the first Sunday in October but is now on the second Sunday.

• The race is held at the Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst.

• Although these days the Bathurst 1000 is run by Holden and Ford, brands such as Morris, Jaguar, BMW, Nissan and Volvo have also been winners in the past.

• Holden has had the most victories with 27 wins, followed by Ford with 18 wins.

• Peter Brock is the most successful driver at Bathurst with 9 wins.

• The official race lap record 2:08.4651 recorded by Jamie Whincup in his Ford in 2007.

• However, the fastest lap ever recorded was 2:06.8012 recorded during practice in 2010 by Holden driver Craig Lowndes.

• The shortest race time for the 1000km race was recorded last year. Craig Lowndes and Mark Skaife set a time of 6h 12m and 51 sec in their Holden VE Commodore.
