1/09/2010

The AFL Grand Final is just around the corner, but even if you’re not one of the lucky 100,000 to have a ticket for the MCG, there are loads of ways to tap into the excitement of Australia’s biggest annual sporting event, from joining the Grand Final Parade and watching the game in one of Melbourne’s bars, to planning your own Grand Final party and sharing the occasion with friends round the barbie.

AFL trophyIf you’ve never been before, why not go to Melbourne and soak up the atmosphere? Anyone who finds themselves in the city on the Friday before it all kicks off at the MCG can’t miss the Grand Final Parade. In fact around 300,000 people turn out to watch the players as they march through the city’s main thoroughfares to the steps of the Victorian Parliament.

But footie fans who aren’t in Melbourne can still enter into the spirit of the big event with the traditional Grand Final parties – there’s nothing better than watching the match with mates. Don’t forget the traditional half-time kick-to-kick.
In fact AFL followers all around the world get together to watch the match and celebrate the Grand Final in true Aussie style.
