afl grand final

3/09/2013

This year's AFL Grand Final on Saturday 28th September rapidly approaching, with the final eight teams left to battle for the flag. The last Saturday in September is one of the biggest events on the nation's sporting calendar.

We take a look at how AFL fans around the country can make the most of Grand Final day, even if you can't be at the M.C.G. in person.

  • AFL Grand Final Host an AFL Grand Final party – If you want to go all out to celebrate, you could host an AFL-themed party with footy themed decorations, food and of course watching the game on a big screen TV!
  • Get some friends around for a BBQ to watch the game – If you fancy a more low-key way of watching the final, a barbeque with a few friends (preferably who support the same team!) may be the way to go.
  • Head to your local pub or sports bar – If you’re looking for a more immersive way to get involved, your local pub or sports bar will most likely be screening the game. A great way to take advantage of their large screens and soak up the atmosphere with other fans.
  • And if you’re not a fan of AFL…while some may consider it ‘un-Australian’ not to watch the AFL Grand Final, it is a great day to get out and about if you are not a fan of the game. Expect shopping centres, cinemas and other normally-busy places to be very quiet!
