Most Australian men believe that speed limits are set too low and 45% are prepared to break the limit "frequently" or "from time to time." This is according to a new driver survey commissioned by Fleetcare, Australia’s largest independent fleet management company. The Fleetcare survey shows marked difference in attitudes towards driving between men and women. While the fairer sex do not share male attitudes to speeding, they are more likely to talk on their mobiles while driving without a hands free device - 15% said they did so "frequently" or "from time to time" compared with 9.5% for men.
The Fleetcare driver survey probed attitudes towards a number of driving habits and attitudes. Significant gender differences were found on a number of speeding related issues. Prompted on the statement "Speed limits should be respected at all times of day or night irrespective of one's personal circumstances," 92% of women agreed, compared to 78% of men.
